So I am new to all of this wheat free stuff. I bought some wheat free/gluten free cookies a couple of weeks ago and actually enjoyed them. But I did notice not feeling well after I ate a couple. I didn't pay it much attention as it could have been anything (being tired, work stress, etc.)
Today I had a couple of slices of wf/gf brown rice bread for breakfast and then at lunch i had an gf/wf Amy's rice bowl and another one of those cookies. Almost immediately I got a bad headache and then my stomach started hurting.
Here it is hours later and I am still feeling sick and running to the bathroom.
Could I be having a problem with rice too? I can't think of anything else in the things I ate that would give me these problems.

Re: problems with rice?
Thu, April 26, 2007 - 12:52 PMI can't eat that many grain products in 1 day without feeling icky..... but I wouldn't say I have a problem with rice per se.....
from my experience..... as you start to eleminate things from your diet you become hyper sensitive to things.....
everyone is different... I don't eat many grains. I'm not gluten intolerent though. I have actual allergies. I can eat oats and rye, but only 1 sevring or so in a day, if even. I also can't eat many gluten free products because I also have corn and potatoe allergies. It's stuff to figure it all out for yourself.
cut it out for a little while.... then re introduce it.
the carb cravings are pretty intense when you cut out wheat.
maybe try yams??? for some "filler" -

Thu, April 26, 2007 - 1:03 PMThanks Jellin, I was thinking maybe it was too much rice at one time too.
Maybe I will just see how cutting down on all grains does and go from there.
yams sound like a good idea. -

Re: problems with rice?
Sat, May 5, 2007 - 12:57 PMIt's very unlikely that you're having trouble with rice.
Eat some plain brown rice that you cook in a pot with nothing added and see how you react.
There's tons of stuff in the bread or in the Amy's prepared food that you could be reacting to.
I save the labels of stuff that I am not sure why I reacted to until a particular ingredient repeats. I also look up things I don't understand but of course it's just easier to avoid thing with chemical ingredients.
The trouble I've had with things that are marked GF and dairy free has mostly been corn extracts usually stabilizers & sweeteners like xanthan gum.
Good luck. -

Re: problems with rice?
Sun, June 10, 2007 - 6:39 AMIt's possible that you have a mild allergy to rice, more pronounced since you ate more in one day than usual...I don't think it's as unlikely as it would seem. Someone who is prone to developing food allergies is likely to have several, for example, I am allergic to wheat, rice, lettuce, pinto beans, almonds, etc., none of which produces major symptoms unless I eat a lot or several of those foods over a short period of time.
