I can eat wheat now!!!

How does this happen??? I've no idea. I tested it in small bits at first: a pretzel here, some soy sauce there. And that went okay. So I had a few more pretzels another day. And that went fine. And then: I ate a half a bagel! And that went okay. So then: I ate the other half!

There were other events like this, bigger and more daring in wheatscope, but there remained a question in my mind...until today. I got allergy tested, and I am completely free of food allergies! Wow! Not entirely allergy free just yet: I'm allergic to dust mites, dogs, and cats, but as long as no one makes me a dust mite sandwich, I should be fine!

:)

Life is so crazy and interesting~

Well, the real proof is what I've been eating and feeling okay with...which has been fairly wheaty (though organic and whole grain, of course)...

But there's something very reassuring about the lack of little red dots on the arm~

        i understand.
on the way home from work tonight i was thinking that i probably would stay wheat free if it were me, but it would be nice to be ok when there just isn't anything else.

          wow. jealous.

i don't mind being wheat free honestly but it does provide a huge challenge when traveling... current challenge - how to survive 2 months, mostly in France - the land of wheaty goodness. When I traveled this summer I learned it ain't always easy to be wheat free once you leave the bubble of CA.

My friend just purchased a book called "Healthy Highways" that details health food stores and health oriented restaurants across the US for travelers. Maybe there is a similar book for France? Might be~

            :)

And even though I can consume wheat, I'm a vegan ('cept for fish), so there's still the matter of "Are you sure there's no butter in that?" And "Is that tofu or cheese?"

            *poke poke*

            :)

there needs to be a new word for dairy free fish eaters...

i have always refrained from the vegan word cause of bee pollen myself- oh yeah, and the fish
(however i have been wavering slightly lately)

Are you dairy free by choice, Faern? I get suicidal PMS if I consume animal (mammal or bird) cholesterol between my ovulation and bleeding. So it's really in my best interest to avoid it at all costs.

Thankfully, fish is good for me always!

                Thank you, Fish!

            that's my issue exactly bex.
there are places i am convinced i wont be able to find food, like france as you say- and there i have the whole cream issue as well.
i think i'll stick with south america and some other places for a while... as if i'm going anywhere right now...

but i do like being wheat free otherwise...

yeah thankfully i can handle a wee bit o dairy. not a lot but a little cheese is okay and yogurt is good.

i'll be sure to report back on what i find in france. if nothing, i'll be putting a call out for emergency rice noodles and rye crisps.

                www.afdiag.org/index.php

Europe is pretty informed about Celiac Disease, I think they spell it Coeliac (or something similar). I found a French Coeliac society on this website. Of course I don't speak French. But figured it is a good starting point in getting help to eat wheat free.
