Cookbooks!

I meant to buy a pair of shoes, but instead came home with a copy of Simple Treats: A Wheat-Free Dairy-Free Guide to Scrumptious Baked Goods. I'd never heard of it, but figured it was worth a try. Apparently one of the authors is a Seattle local, according to the nice lady at Sidecar Vegan Grocery. (Just a note, this book is NOT gluten free. I don't see any spelt, kamut, or rye on a quick look at the pantry stocking list, but I do see barley flour and oats.)

Any other wheat-free cookbook favorites out there? (I'm especially interested in vegan ones, but I won't limit the rest of you!)

So far we've just made the apple cranberry crisp, which was super tasty, but not very crispy.

I don't really have a favorite. I tend to find one recipe in a book that I like and then never turn to the other pages! But I'd say high on my list to try to explore more are Vegetarian Meat and Potatoes, the PETA cookbook, Bean Banquets (probably the best match for this tribe), Recipies from the Moon, and the UnCheese Cookbook.

i really want to make some of the home grown veggie patties, they are soo good from there and they told me how, but i need directions...

    A Simple Treats update...

I recently made the Chocolate Cake and later the Lemon Cake (both as cupcakes), and they were hits with folks with no dietary restrictions. If barley isn't a problem for you, I'd say this cookbook is a winner whether or not you're vegan. Lemony goodness: www.flickr.com/photos/anng/2501495572/

    A couple notes:
*I ran out of maple syrup (a huge tragedy, I know), but both cakes came out fine replacing the maple with agave nectar.
*Some of the recipes say they make 12 cupcakes. They lie. They make 12 ginormous Costco sized cupcakes. If you're making standard sized cupcakes, halve the recipe or plan to make 2 dozen. I learned the hard way: www.flickr.com/photos/ann...874/detail/
